A new era of alternative.

“Birds of prey include eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and vultures. These amazing birds have specialized adaptations to make them nature’s greatest hunters and a key part of their ecosystems.” -PBS

Women and LGBTQ+ people have historically been underestimated, excluded, and barred from opportunities in the workplace—including creative and alternative spaces. Yet despite countless efforts to hold them back, they continue to rise above.

Among the many derogatory terms used against women is “bird,” an outdated label that suggested a woman was incapable, irrational, or lacking autonomy.

We see things differently.

Like birds of prey, women and LGBTQ+ individuals can become the apex of their environments—powerful, resilient, and impossible to ignore. It’s easy for prey to overlook something soaring high above them.

Our mission is to shine a light on the women and LGBTQ+ artists shaping the tattoo and alternative scenes. Not because they deserve a token spotlight once a year, but because their stories are inspiring, their perspectives are valuable, and their work is breathtaking.

We believe that sharing these stories creates new possibilities for our readers. Women, queer people, and young creatives shouldn’t feel pressured to fit into boxes that were never built for them. We have the evidence to prove that people just like them are already forging their own paths—and making a profound impact while doing so.

As the first tattoo magazine dedicated to celebrating women and LGBTQ+ voices, Birds of Prey Tattoo Magazine is proud to bring community together, amplify underrepresented artists, and inspire a new era of the alternative scene.
